With the existence of overpotential of hydrogen evolution, cell pressure is increased in the water electrolysis process, which might also result in consuming large amounts of electric energy in the production process. In response to this, we offer a nickel-based porous alloy electrode. Specifically, the true surface area of the electrode is enhanced through designing appropriate pore structure and increasing the roughness on the electrode surface, so that the catalytic activity of the electrode can be accelerated thanks to the increase in catalyst active centers. Furthermore, an electrocatalytic synergistic effect can be also generated through alloying various elements on the surface of the electrode. Based on this, an alloy electrode with excellent catalytic hydrogen evolution activity can be obtained.
